KIJANA
KIJANA is a platform dedicated to creative collaboration. It brings together artists and field specialists to exchange ideas, experiment across disciplines and create visionary expressions. Shaped by dialogue and collective spirit, KIJANA supports residencies, showcases, and community projects that merge creativity with sustainability and exchange with innovation. It is a space where local and global voices meet to reimagine art in everyday life.
Bridging Spaces 2025 was a pilot residency project carried out in partnership with Kibera Arts District in Nairobi, Kenya. The open call welcomed artists from all over the world, but most applications came from East Africa, which helped us pinpoint topics relevant to artists in the region. Summarized in the words of a fashion designer from Tanzania, a concept emerged — Beyond Garment.
Over the course of the three-week residency, Beyond Garment evolved from a project concept into a movement, created by five residency artists, local creatives, organizers and community members. Interactions between artists and the community during studio days, workshops and public events revealed the possibilities of using fabric in creative and unpredictable ways. From a street runway to a fabric art exhibition, we explored performativity, upcycling and digitalization, but most importantly — the power of working together. The impact was significant, with continued collaboration between participating artists and the strong public response to the two main events: the KIJANA Street Style fashion event and the Beyond Garment fabric art exhibition.
In an effort to bring KIJANA back to Nairobi and to expose more young people to meaningful collaborations, our partnership with Kibera Arts District continues, while also expanding to connect more African and global creatives through new partnerships in Slovenia and West Africa.
As a collaborative platform created by artists and art professionals, we are always open to new partnerships. Kijana Street Style Vol. 2
KIJANA Street Style Vol. 2 is coming to Ljubljana, co-organized with Mladi zmaji. Following a successful first edition, the KIJANA platform continues as a space for fashion, community, and creative experimentation. This time, the project moves to BAZA, the Ljubljana Youth Center, where together we will develop a new street fashion show and pop-up event as part of the Pass the Street Art Project festival.
Kijana Street Style Vol. 2 brings together young creators, designers, performers, and organizers in a collaborative process of co-creating an event that will take place in the skate park beneath Fabiani Bridge in Ljubljana. We invite fashion students, upcycling designers, young sustainable fashion brands, vintage rework creators, runway models, and all fashion enthusiasts interested in organization, production, styling, or performing to join us.
The project will develop through a series of preparatory meetings where together we will shape the fashion show concept, visual identity, selection of participants, event script, and execution of the final presentation.
The first meeting / Kijana Street Style Vol. 2: Street Runway Lab will take place on May 13, 2026 at 2:00 PM at BAZA, Ljubljana Youth Center.
Participation is free.
The final event will take place on June 11 and 12, 2026.
